two good quality moving boxes on a table

Boxes come in all shapes and sizes and are used for a multitude of reasons. If you know which box you’ll need, then you’re good to go on packing, storing, or moving items from place to place. There are various types of boxes, but our focal point is, what are the top five best boxes for moving.

What’s the first type of moving box you’ll need?

So whenever you’re getting ready to pack and/or move, you’re going to need small boxes/cartons to pack small items. CDs (if you still listen to them), small appliances, tools, lampshades, and canned goods can all be in this box. Make a separate box for canned goods so nothing gets disorganized. Also, if you have a lot of makeup, packing palettes, lipsticks, makeup brushes, etc. they can be placed in this box. I’d suggest dedicating a separate small box for the makeup and going from there.

Now the most popular moving box is the medium cardboard box. Sturdy and strong, this box can hold household items such as pans, pots, vases, picture frames, stuffed animals, toys, bed linen, and clothing. This box is 14 to 18 inches in size and is durable and easy to use. Most people use this box because it’s easy to pack multiple items in one box. For instance, you may use the box to pack all of your dresses in one and dress shoes such as heels and pumps in the other box.

Now if you’re a college student moving into a dorm or a college graduate moving into your first apartment, I’d advise you to pack essentials in the medium cardboard box. Essentials consist of bathroom toiletries, lamps, towels and towelettes, hangers for clothing, etc. This box will be your lifesaver.

Typical moving box that we all know and use

The large cardboard box is, bingo, the main box that we all use when moving! This box is larger than the medium cardboard box at 18 to 24 inches in size. People use the large cardboard box to pack clothes, pillows, bedding (sheets, duvets, etc.,) blankets, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.  When using this box, make sure you make enough room for it in your vehicle, and/or Uhaul because it does take up a lot of space.

This box should be used for bulkier items that are not too heavy though. Don’t make the mistake of packing your entire closet into one of these and not being able to lift it!

You will be fine packing a Uhaul with a lot of these boxes, but be mindful if you’re needing to use your vehicle to move your belongings. Think of taking just one or two of these boxes if you are using a small car or regular coupe. Pack smart!

Delicate dishware? Here’s a box you should use

Ever heard of dish pack boxes? Well, if you do great, but if not that’s okay because this box is pretty crafty. We all know that handling dishware can be difficult, especially when it comes to fine china. Dish pack boxes are made of extra-strength cardboard and contain dividers on the inside of the box to separate and protect your delicate dishware from shattering. In addition to the dividers, please be sure to use packing paper to pack each dish. When it comes down to it, plates, glasses, tea cups, and teapots can all break in a box without a cushion holding them in place.

Lastly, heard of a telescope box? They come in handy if you’re trying to move large items

The name of this box is pretty unique. Its’ purpose is to hold large items such as artwork, mirrors, and flatscreen TVs. Placing large portraits and landscape art pieces in this box is especially important so that your valuables do not break. If you’re already wondering, no, this box is not for telescopes!
