What Are Dish Pack Boxes

Dish pack boxes are mostly used to move fragile items. They are cardboard moving boxes that come with thicker or “double layered” wall. The moving cartons use layering cardboard material, like fiberboard, to increase their strength. Most moving boxes hold a single layer of corrugated cardboard, but the dish box has double the layers of corrugated cardboard.

Corrugated boxes are boxes composed of multiple layers of fireboard, protective sheets, within the boxes structure. Inside the boxes layers you can find one sheet that is corrugated (a layer that has a wavy pattern to it). A corrugated layer is placed in between two other layers of carboard or fiberboard. This is where the increase protection comes from, increasing the strength of the box’s material and structure.

In addition to the added layers, dish pack boxes are found with sections that provide places to organize your items. These dividers serve to organize materials / items and minimize the amount of movement in the box during the move. If you have a large variation of items, there are boxes with adjustable dividers. Use adjustable dividers to fit large items like plates alongside small items like glassware.

Like all moving boxes you can find a variety of sizes to store your valuables. Average is medium sized around 18 x 18 x 18 in with the capacity to carry 75 lbs.

Is There a Difference Between Corrugated Boxes and Dish Pack Boxes?

Dish pack boxes are corrugated boxes, but not all corrugated boxes are dish pack boxes. Both have the double layered material, providing more durability, but dish pack boxes are specific to the dividers inside the structure to reduce movement during your travels. Corrugated boxes are double layered moving cartons, without the dividers. So, when searching for boxes keep in the mind the differences.

What Can I Use Dish Pack Boxes For?

With the range of sizes and divider options to choose from, sturdy boxes can be utilized for a variety of items. While fragile items are what the boxes are built for, anything with glass or scratchable items should also be secured.

Along with corrugated cardboard, the dividers help to keep track of your smallest items: jewelry, batteries, knickknacks, shot glasses, etc. are well accounted for when organized inside the dividing slots.

The organization and the lack of movement the dividers provide is nearly essential for valuables. Use them for glass kitchen wear like stemware, bottles of wine or other alcohol, vintage glasses/plates, or vases,

Pack those large items too! You can always use double corrugated cartons to move TVs, monitors, large desktops, etc.

Are They Worth It?

Dish pack boxes (compared to other types of moving boxes) names their usefulness and durability. This is an alternative to wrapping each item with multiple layers of bubble wrap, plus the sections within the box help to minimize the amount of movement during your travels.

So, are they worth it? I’d say yes if your moving long distances, using movers or have a large array of fragile items. If your move is local, you’re handling your items, or if you only have a few items, stick to the basics.

If you plan on storing items for a long time – dish pack boxes are worth it. The long-term wear and tear of storing can weaken regular cardboard boxes. Corrugated boxes will last longer than single layer cardboard.

Why Do Dish Pack Boxes Cost More?

Dish packing boxes come with twice the amount of cardboard, so, twice the amount of support, protection, and naturally, price. If you have nice, fragile items you want to keep protected, a reusable extra-durable box could be worth the difference between a $1 dollar normal box, and a $2 double layer of corrugated cardboard. Furthermore, you can reuse your cardboard boxes.

How to Pack a Dish Pack Box

To create the safest move, it’s most effective to minimize the amount of movement and amount of surface space of each item touching the bottom of the box.

Start with a bundle of paper at the bottom of each section, adding cushion to your fragile items. Pack your item into the box, then cover the top with more packing paper. So for each slot, place your valuables with a bit of packing paper (cushion) between each item, the bottom, and the top of the box.

For each item, place the heaviest items on the bottom, and pack your plates and bowls vertically (so the bottom of the plate is facing a side of the box), the more paper the more significant the protection.

Options After The Move

Like all cardboard boxes, dish packs are recyclable and reusable. With the double layer of support in the box you will likely be able to use them multiple times. Not planning to move again? After the move, you can post the used boxes on Craglist or Facebook Marketplace to get a little cash back and get rid of the boxes without wasting. Look for friends moving or keep them for storage.

Where To Buy

Your dish pack boxes are going to cost more than regular cardboard boxes, so browse a few places to find the best price. Your local shipping or USPS store may sell them as well. You can always shop at Lowes, Home Depot, or Amazon if no local stores sell the double corrugated cardboard.

In Summary

All in all choose what ‘s best for your move. A greater amount of protection will help to create an easier move, and by the same token during the next move.
